Mangetout (snow pea)
Similar veggies:
Sugar snap peas, peas, runner beans
A quick introduction
Mangetout are a type of pea enveloped in a flat and bright green pod. The french name translates to 'eat it all', indicating that these peas can be eaten as whole, also uncooked. This type of pea is often confused with sugar snap peas, which are instead more round and plump.
Storage
Mangetout will keep fine for a few days in a paper bag in the fridge
Season
June to August
Suggestions for preparation
Early in the season mangetout can be eaten raw, pod and all, especially when just harvested. We do recommend that you remove the 'strings' that run in the length of the pods by pulling them off. Mangetout are lovely briefly grilled and served with some oil, lemon and salt. They are an excellent addition to stir-fries, and also pair well with seafood.
